Carl Frampton successfully defended his super bantamweight commonwealth title with a a seventh round knockout of Scotland's Kris Hughes at the York hall in Bethnal Green last night.

Frampton was the faster, accurate and cleaner puncher as he ripped into the body of Hughes with hooks, following up with counter head shots and dishing out other assorted punches. The footwork of Hughes kept him in the bout as he circled the ring, occasionally throwing out the jab but not appearing to have any kind of plan to overcome the skillfull champion from Belfast, Northern Ireland. Frampton continued to wear down Hughes throughout the rounds and the end came in the seventh when he landed a missile of a right hook to the head to floor Hughes heavily. The challenger got up but referee, Mark Green made the decision to call a halt to the contest.

"He was very tough. I began to sink in some body shots after the first couple of rounds but he stood up to them. It took something spectacular to get rid of him and I'm happy with the performance."

Former WBC super-middleweight champion, Robin Reid sent Daniel Cadman into orbit in the fifth round in his second comeback bout since losing to Tobias Webb in March, 2011 in the super-middleweight 'Prizefighter' tournament. Reid had a slow start as he held off Cadman's assaults and slowed down the pace but got himself back into the fight as he began attempting to land his famed right hook to the head, which he initially failed to do. But his luck changed in round five when he landed three successive rights to Cadman's head that sent him stumbling all around the ring. Reid's record moves on to 42-7-1 (29 KO's).
