With time ticking until they square it out in the ring at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, we will try break it down to what makes this fight one of the most interesting in recent times. Apart from the Tyson Lewis fight which may have generated massive pay per view purchases but it was never the fight quality we expected. Now with Flloyd, who is arguably at his peak and with De La Hoya with Roach in his corner doing his magic this is an unprecitable fight, your either in camp Flloyd or the Golden Boys corner.
This will be one of the highest gross earnings in boxing history. with De la Hoya expected to earn in excess of $100 million and Floyd $40 million there is no doubting the impact this fight will have in boxing. The fight is not easy to judge, while De la Hoya has had some time out, Flloyd has not fought an opponent of De La Hoyas quality and speed. With Flloyd senior on board adding to the attraction of the fight, this has all the ingriedients to be a thrilling fight. I see De La Hoya's speed combined with power and his vast experience, he will overcome Flloyd without a doubt. Although this will cause a big stir and countless arguments in the Two Dice office, I give Flloyd no chance int his fight. Im sure he will find his friend 50 cent's music the right thing to get him pumped up but when has Flloyd ever truly been tested? his most recent fight was the expected win against the Cinderella Man Carlos Baldomir, who we all knew wouldn's stand a chance. Prior to that he fought Judah who although came ready to fight, was all talk as usual and was convincingly beaten by Flloyd. I wouldn't want to take any of Flloyd Mayweathers achievemants away from him, hes earned his right as champion by beating who was there.
But come May 5th, he is in the ring with an opponenet who can match his speed and hit harder than him, that to me sounds like a recipe for disaster, and Flloyd isn't the one making the cookie dough.
The question then comes as to whether each fighter will continue their careers as professional boxers. Flloyd is always a wanted man in the welterweight division and our own Ricky Hatton has his sights set on him. Even Shane Mosely dropped his name in the hat to fight Flloyd. So there is a very good chance to see Flloyd in action again, hes still got time with him and would be a waste of talent to not see him continue.
But for De La Hoya the situation is different. He has had all the money and glory he needs, so why fight flloyd and then continue? Flloyd will be De La Hoyas last fight come win or lose, beacuase he loves the sport. He got the biggest fight this century sorted out for the fight fans and the good of the sport. Boxing needed an oscar for its performance and now we might finally win.
