A jubilant crowd at the Nottingham arena saw local boy Carl Froch deliver a message to the rest of the super-middleweight division by destorying the previously never stopped Sergey Tatesvoyan in the second round
Froch started the fight as he ended it, good combinations and an array of punches landing every time. Towards the latter parts of the first round Tatesvoyan was hurt with explosive right hooks and never truly recovered. As he left his stool in the second, it became apparent this would be his last round, still reeling from the previous round Froch was able to unload again and deliver a devastiatng right hook, which led to the stoppage.
In terms of progress for the Nottinghamshire Middleweight, this can only be viewed as positive. All boxers thrive on boxing and winning. This win was convincing and very methodical. Froch not having to exploit his oppenets weakness instead working on is strengths.
The future for Carl Froch seems as promising as ever, another eliminator fight on the card before he challenges for one of the titles. Although it is unlikely that Calzaghe will see anything to make him want to take this fight. With respect to both men, calzaghe doesn’t have to take the fight. He is now in the latter parts of his career and a few large paydays is all that Calzaghe will be looking for to end his marvellous career.
A domestic showdown between the both would be something to treasure, but it really is on Calzaghe’s team to thrash out a deal. This doesn’t detract from how dominant Froch has been in domestic and now European encounters. He will take tremendous pride in stopping his opponent for the first time, as will his camp for the performance. All things being evaluated, Froch on this form should be challenging for a world title sooner rather than later.
