Current European light-middleweight champion Jamie Moore talks domestic fights, winning European gold and Ricky Hatton.
With the whole country reeling from the defeat of Ricky Hatton another fighter from Manchester, Jamie Moore, is on the way up and now that he has accomplished himself as the best in Europe he plans to make it at world level.
The Salford based fighter who recently won the vacant European title at light middleweight said he was relieved to have finally won the belt that has eluded him for three years but will move to clean up the division and has his sights set on a world title fight, preferably against Sergio Martinez.

Eight-Time World Champion Roy Jones, Jr. battles former super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy in “Hook City,” on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum & Convention Center in Biloxi, MS. “Hook City” will be presented by Square Ring Promotions, Inc. and broadcast live on pay-per-view.

Roy Jones Jr. (53-5, 39 KOs) from Pensacola, FL is the former middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight world champion and was the pound-for-pound king for over a decade. On March 3, 2003, Jones stymied World Heavyweight Champion John Ruiz to become the first former middleweight champion in over 100 years to win the heavyweight world championship. Then, on November 8, 2003, Jones completed an unprecedented feat when he returned to light heavyweight and won that world title once again by defeating then-champion Antonio Tarver.
Jeff Lacy (25-2, 17 KOs) from St. Petersburg, FL, was a member of the 2000 USA Olympic Boxing Team and made his professional debut on February 2, 2001. Lacy won the IBF (International Boxing Federation) super middleweight title when he stopped Syd Vanderpool in round eight on October 2, 2004 and made four successful defenses.

Nathan Cleverly is confident that he can fill the void in Welsh boxing left by the retirement of Joe Calzaghe. Cleverly, the reigning Commonwealth Light Heavyweight Champ will look to add the British title to his resume when he clashes with Danny McIntosh in London next month.
The two unbeaten fighters will put their perfect records on the line at the York Hall, Bethnal Green in the main event on July 18th with the Hennessy Sports promotion live on ITV4.
Cleverly is confident that he can follow in Calzaghe’s footsteps by winning a British title en route to World honours. “There’s a lot of people talking about me lifting that mantle off Joe Calzaghe and becoming the next big thing from Wales,” said Cleverly. “That’s a pressure I’m happy to take on and I’m thriving under it. I think it will bring out the best in me and I just have to make sure I do the work and keep on winning which I will do.”

BOTH FIGHTERS AGREE TO COMPETE IN WELTERWEIGHT CONTEST ON BOXING'S BIGGEST WEEKEND-MEXICAN INDEPENDENCE DAY
Sports fans around the world can breathe again as it was announced today that the highly anticipated 12-round welterweight showdown between
Floyd Mayweather and Juan Manuel Marquez has been officially rescheduled for September 19, after Mayweather, who suffered a rib injury while training for the originally scheduled July 18 date, received clearance from his doctor to participate on the new date.

Boxing's hottest young star, 2007 amateur world champion, and 2008 U.S. Olympian Demetrius "Boo Boo" Andrade improved his record to a perfect 5-0, 4KO with an impressive four round decision win over Tony Hirsch (8-2-1, 4KO) on ESPN2's "Friday Night Fights". It was Andrade's third showing on FNF this year, and just as in the previous two he looked spectacular.

Hours before Miguel Cotto embarked and ultimately persevered in the toughest victory of his career, a reserved man dressed in a fine blue-colored vest sat down at his ringside seat in Madison Square Garden. But this was no ordinary man and he did not make a typical entrance. The remarkably humble individual was the best boxer on the planet, Manny Pacquiao, and his status as the world’s top fighter also meant that he was instantly swarmed by star struck fans who yearned for a mere glance at the boxing superstar.
But when Pacquiao sat down, he was reduced to being one of the nearly 18,000 spectators who awaited WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto as he made his highly anticipated return to New York City on the eve of the annual Puerto Rican Day Parade. Cotto had previously fought on this date in 2005, 2006, and 2007 and each following year produced a tougher adversary. From his Olympic rival Mohamad Abdulaev to the brash and fast-punching Paul Malignaggi to the former undisputed welterweight champion of the world in Zab Judah, Cotto conquered all of his opponents and was a perfect 3-0 on this precise date.

FTM stable stars Jamie Moore and Rendall Munroe are set to earn WBC title fights next year.
The pair were celebrating last night after the Mexico City based governing body gave them impressive world rankings in their latest ratings. European light-middleweight champion Moore is rated third in their rankings for the 11st crown currently held by Argentina's Sergio Martinez. Leicester dustman Munroe has gone one better and is number two for the 8st 10lb title which is worn by Japan's Toshiaki Nishioka.
The fighters promoter Frank Maloney will now lead a delegation to the WBC convention in Jeju, South Korea in November and lobby for both fighters to become mandatory contenders.
Maloney said: "Both fighters are in a great position to get themselves world title fights in the next 12 months. It could be possible for the current champion to make voluntaries particularly Martinez, but I feel sure both fighters can earn mandatory status."
Southpaw Munroe, 28, has made three successful defences of the European super-bantamweight title and recently became Commonwealth champion.
Moore, 30, is injury free for the first time in years and that showed when he captured the Euro championship with a third round stoppage of former world champion Michele Piccirillo earlier this year.

John Murray maintained his unbeaten record with a sixth-round stoppage of Scott Lawton.
Murray was well ahead on points when the referee stopped the contest after one minute and 50 seconds of round six at Wigan's Robin Park Arena.
Murray had Lawton in desperate trouble near the end of the first round after catching him with a powerful right hand, but Lawton clung on and was grateful to hear the bell.
Lawton was not afraid to stand and trade blows, but Murray edged the next three rounds as well to remain in control of the bout.

Cotto swept to an easy victory over Michael Jennings in February, but a much sterner test awaits this Saturday in Ghana's Joshua Clottey at Madison Square Garden
It's highly probable that Miguel Angel Cotto has experienced some unique and varying emotions over the last 12 months. From the since-departed boxing consensus of the Puerto Rican being the world's top welterweight prior to facing Antonio Margarito, to the devastating defeat inflicted by that same opponent in MSG last June, to the emergence of the Margarito hand-wrap controversy in January, to the therapeutic (yet somewhat tenuous) victory over Michael Jennings the following month and then the surprising split with his uncle and career-long trainer, Cotto's professional life has been anything but idle and plagued by perplexing, pugilistic riddles (did Margarito use the same illegal tactics in their battle? How adversely affected could Cotto's development be by the departure of his uncle, Evangelista? Sadly, only one of these two posers may be answered in the near future.)

At a neutral site, a matchup between Miguel Cotto and Joshua Clottey would essentially be a 50/50 fight. But on June 13th, their welterweight showdown will be located at anywhere but an impartial location -- it will be in front of approximately 20,000 rabid Puerto Rican loyalists whose cries of “Cotto, Cotto, Cotto” will no doubt resonate through the entire arena. Clottey thinks he can win this, and he certainly can win it, but he’s going to have to knock Cotto out because he certainly isn’t winning a close decision.
I’ve been to two Cotto fights before; his matchup with Shane Mosley and Michael Jennings. Let’s ignore his 5 round demolition of Jennings for a moment and focus on his fight with Mosley in front of 17,000 fans who were mostly pro-Cotto. By all accounts, it was an incredibly close fight that could’ve gone either way, but the judges unanimously scored it in favor of the Puerto Rican.
And I certainly can’t blame them.

The long awaited and eagerly anticipated rematch between undefeated two-time light heavyweight champion CHAD DAWSON and former world champion GLEN JOHNSON is on. Promoted by Gary Shaw Productions, DiBella Entertainment and Seminole Warriors Boxing, Dawson-Johnson II will be broadcast live on HBO World Championship Boxing in the fall. The site and date will be formally announced shortly.
The world title rematch pits Dawson, the light heavyweight division’s kingpin, defending his world championship belt against Johnson, the man who gave him the stiffest test and closest shave of his career. In their first battle, which took place in April 2008, the two squared off with Dawson’s WBC light heavyweight title on the line. Dawson came away with a hard-earned unanimous decision, but the entire boxing world was left clamoring for more from these world-class fighters.

Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing won the purse bid for the Vacant IBF Welterweight Championship of the World between Star Boxing's IBF #2 rated Delvin Rodriguez (24-2-2, 14KO) and IBF #3 rated Isaac Hlatshwayo (28-1-1, 10KO). The winning bid was $136,000.00. Star Boxing, who promotes Rodriquez, beat out the bid of Branco Sports Productions, whose bid was $127,500.
Rodriguez and Hlatshwayo are familiar with one another. The two fought back on November 17th, 2008, in Hlatshwayo's home country of South Africa in an official IBF welterweight title eliminator. While the bout was ruled a draw, many who witnessed the fight, including a large majority of the South African press, felt Rodriguez deserved the victory. Now Rodriguez will have a chance to get his revenge and this time with Star winning the bid, the fight will likely take place on U.S. soil.
The fight will be promoted by Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing and should be officially announced shortly.

Joe Calzaghe’s fight with promoter Frank Warren has entered the next round. The undefeated former world champion boxer won a judgment against Warren’s Sports Network earlier this year for almost £2 million, however Calzaghe has yet to see a penny of the money awarded to him by the High Court. Yesterday Calzaghe commenced legal proceedings against Warren personally, claiming that Warren had conspired to deprive him of his money, had conspired to use unlawful means to damage him and had knowingly assisted in a breach of trust or fiduciary duty by Sports Network. Calzaghe also lodged a complaint to the British Boxing Board of Control alleging misconduct by Warren in relation to the non-payment and the lengths to which Calzaghe says Warren has gone to attempt to ensure that he will never be paid. Calzaghe seeks compensation from Warren for the amount of money due to him and is asking the Board to withdraw or suspend Warren’s promoter’s license until such time as that compensation has been paid. “I’m sickened by the way I’ve been treated,” said Calzaghe. “If Warren thinks I’ll walk away from this, after putting myself and my career record at risk in the ring, he’s mistaken. I’ll pursue him all the way until justice is done.”

No. 1 pound-for-pound best fighter Manny Pacquiao was surprised and flattered over the enterprising reports which came out in the media that a fight with “Sugar” Shane Mosley has been forged Wednesday.
Apparently, a press release from a group associated with Mosley, the Entertainers and Athletes Group (EAG), came up with the story that Pacquiao agreed to fight the current WBA welterweight champion Mosley on Oct. 17.
“It’s funny that I am the last man to know about this supposed fight. I know everyone wants to fight me and I have said I will fight anyone, including Mosley. But I have not heard from my promoter or have seen any contract or fight detail. So, there is no fight yet,” said Pacquiao.
“I am flattered that even the great “Sugar” Shane Mosley is now going after me by any means. I am not closing the door on any negotiations, though, and I trust my promotional and training team to make the best decision for me,” added Pacquiao, almost a month after knocking out consensus 140-pound champion Ricky Hatton of England in only two rounds.

Undefeated and world ranked heavyweight contender Kevin Johnson (22-0-1, 9KO) has one question for The Klitschko Management Group, "What time does the next flight to Germany leave?" Johnson, coming off an impressive TKO victory over undefeated US Olympic Team Captain Devin Vargas on May 15th looks to prove he is the leading US heavyweight contender and next heavyweight champion.
"It's as simple as picking up the phone and calling Star Boxing," Johnson stated after learning that David Haye pulled out of his June 20th match with Wladimir Klitschko. "I'm ready to show the entire world what boxing experts already know, the next heavyweight champion of the world is from the United States and his name is Kevin Johnson."

Three-time world champion MIGUEL COTTO, (33-1, 27 KOs), from Puerto Rico, will be holding a free public workout in the Bronx, This Saturday! June 6, beginning at 2:30 P.M., in an outdoor ring at 152nd Street and Tinton. Cotto, who is in his final week of training, will be defending his WBO welterweight title against JOSHUA CLOTTEY, (35-2, 21 KOs), from the Bronx, Saturday, June 13, at Madison Square Garden.
This marks the fourth time in the past five years that Cotto, a two-division world titleist, will headline at the “Mecca of Boxing” on the eve of the National Puerto Rican Day Parade. Clottey returns to the ring after defeating Brooklyn brawler Zab Judah and winning the IBF welterweight title. Together, Cotto and Clottey have a combined record of 68-3 (48 KOs) – a winning percentage of 96% and a victory by knockout ratio exceeding 70%.
This action-packed card will also feature undefeated WBO Junior Flyweight champion Ivan Calderon (32-0, 6 KOs), defending his title against No. 1 contender and mandatory challenger Rodel Mayol (25-3, 19 KOs), of the Philippines.

David Haye's world heavyweight title fight against Wladimir Klitschko in Germany on 20 June has been called off.
The decision to postpone the IBF, WBO and IBO title contest was taken after Londoner Haye, 28, suffered an injury in training at his base in Cyprus.
The pair were due to meet in front of a 60,000 sell-out crowd at Schalke O4 FC's Veltins Arena.
According to our sources, Nikolai Valuev or Ruslan Chagaev are now in line to compete for Wladimir Klitschko's WBO Heavyweight title after their bout collapsed last week in Finland.

Fresh off his demolition job of former NABO and WBO title challenger DeAndrey Abron, Mack now feels he is ready for anyone in the division. He has now chalked up 5 impressive wins which include 3 by stoppage and now is quickly becoming recognised as one of the top challengers at light heavyweight. On speaking to Yusaf regarding a choice for his next opponent he mentions a few of the top guys out there.

Joe DeGuardia, CEO and President of Star Boxing, was awarded this year's "Most Active USBA promoter", at the 26th annual IBF/USBA Convention, which was held in Panama City, Panama. DeGuardia who was in attendance, earned the award for the work he did with current USBA Welterweight champion and IBF #2 rated, Delvin Rodriguez and former USBA Jr. Welterweight champion "Mighty" Mike Arnaoutis. Rodriguez will now fight for the vacant IBF Welterweight championship this summer against South African Isaac Hlatshwayo. Both Rodriguez and Arnaoutis fought four separate times in 2008, winning all four of their bouts.

Johannesburg, South Africa (May 29, 2009) - Behind on all scorecards at the beginning of the 12th round, Perez landed a huge left hand jab that sent Mabuza to the canvas. Buzzed and on uneasy legs Mabuza beat the count. Perez proceeded to apply pressure and landed huge shots leaving no option for referee Kenny Chevalier to stop the fight with 1:06 left in the last stanza.
With the victory, Perez (19-0, 14 KOs) becomes the mandatory challenger for Joseph Abgeko who fights Vic Darchinyan on July 11 for the IBF bantamweight title.
"My corner told me I was losing. I knew I had to throw decisive shots and try to knock him out," said Perez after the fight. "I countered him and hit him right on the button, it was not a lucky shot. He was in his hometown and we battled hard, Mabuza is a lion, but I knew some close rounds were going to go his way. I'm ready for the big challenge now."

Undefeated two-time light heavyweight champion CHAD DAWSON informed the International Boxing Federation (IBF) that he has vacated its title, effective immediately. Promoter Gary Shaw personally delivered the letter to the IBF at its annual convention which is being held in Panama City, Panama.
“The IBF rejected our request for an exception to making an immediate title defense against mandatory challenger Tavoris Cloud and inasmuch as no major television network was willing to buy the fight, the IBF left us little choice,” said Shaw. “I respect the IBF’s decision but the fight they were forcing us to do was commercially unviable. On behalf of Chad, we thank the IBF for the opportunity to fight for its title and to defend it. It’s an honor Chad will always cherish. Now it’s on to bigger and better. Chad looks forward to defending his International Boxing Organization title against the cream of the crop and unencumbered.”

British Lightweight Champion John Murray has set himself a timetable that he hopes will see him in contention for a World title by this time next year. The undefeated Manchester talent makes the second defence of his title against Scott Lawton at the Robin Park Arena in Wigan on Saturday, June 13th.
The fight headlines a Hennessy Sports event which will be live on ITV4 and Murray hopes the fight will take him a step closer to keeping permanent possession of the famous Lonsdale belt and set up a mouth watering showdown with domestic rival Jon Thaxton for later in the year.

Tyson Fury believes that it’s a case of, once bitten twice shy for Derek “Del Boy” Chisora in the wake of Fury’s second round destruction of touted prospect Scott Belshaw on Saturday night.
Following on from victories for both men over the weekend Fury’s promoter Mick Hennessy has already tabled an offer to Chisora’s promoter for the two to clash in Wigan on June 13th live on ITV4 in a final eliminator for the British Heavyweight title (subject to Board approval).
Chisora was ringside at the Watford Colosseum on Saturday to watch Fury take apart Belshaw with a series of crushing body punches that underlined his status as one of the most exciting prospects to emerge in world boxing in recent years.

“Kevin Johnson is getting his bags packed 'cos I'm coming over and getting (all of America's) stuff back...” - Kevin Johnson
Last week I spoke to the promising American heavyweight, Kevin Johnson, and got a few entertaining words about his aspirations and what he thinks about the other, perhaps more well-known competitors in his race for a world title. Certainly a person with a considerable amount to say for himself, a chat with Kevin Johnson is unlikely to ever be dull and he felt very strongly about a few burning issues. Read on...

Nearly a week on and the fall out from the fight seemed to be gathering more momentum than the actual fight itself. Instead of talking about the tremendous victory achieved by the best boxer in the world, Manny Pacquiao, the whole world is talking about the defeat of Ricky Hatton.
It’s probably a different story in the Philippines but from what I can tell in England and stateside there has been minimal talk about the emphatic victory for Pacquiao. Instead two stories have dominated boxing. Firstly, will Ricky Hatton retire? (Something I will talk about in more detail later) and the second the return of everyone’s favourite, Floyd Mayweather Jnr.
Hatton is the peoples champion and always will be, nobody seems to be able to fill a stadium quite like him and it will take at least three years before some of the Olympic medallists attain that notoriety. Hatton is big box office and is mutually loved on both sides of the Atlantic. But the facts speak for themselves and he’s not a great fighter. He’s a very good fighter but will never be able to dig deep enough to become a true legend of the sport.

"So much for truth in advertising. We all know who the No. 1 pound for pound fighter is and his name is Manny Pacquiao.
They can call Mayweather-Marquez "No. 1" but it smells like No. 2,” said three-time BWAA Trainer of the Year World-Famous Freddie Roach. “The fight stinks. Two counter-punchers waiting for the other one to make the first move is boring and proves nothing.
If Mayweather wanted to prove he was the best all he had to do was wait one day to see who won Pacquiao-Hatton before signing to fight Marquez. You might as well rename him Fraud Mayweather, Jr.“

Twodice previews the rematch of two of the divisions leading men.
I imagine it’s tough trying to sell a fight the week after Pacquiao-Hatton. But that’s exactly what Chad Dawson and Antonio Tarver are looking to do when they face off for the IBO and IBF light-heavyweight title at the Hard Rock Casino, Las Vegas.
The fight is a rematch for the titles that Tarver lost in their first meeting. That night Tarver was limp, boring and seemed devoid of all ideas. The highly rated Dawson soundly beat him.
Tarver seems to have been around boxing forever and at 40 hasn’t got much, if any, time left in Boxing. This will probably be his last fight and I don’t really know what he thinks he can do differently against a fighter 14 years his junior and one who has beaten him so comprehensively before.
The fight was originally scheduled for March but Dawson had to withdraw due to a hand injury, which he has now fully recovered from.

Cuban Olympic Gold Medallist Odlienier Solis has backed out of his May 22nd fight against Heavyweight contender "Fast Fres" Oquendo. The fight was supposed to take place at the world famous Fountain Bleu resort in the Main Event.
"I've been down here training my ass off for this guy and he chickens out" said Oquendo. "Im the "Cuban Assasin and he's the "Cuban Coward" said Oquendo. "I'll fight him in Cuba if I have to, I just want to fight"
Oquendo also stated. Ahmet Oner, Solis promoter at Arena Boxing says Solis broke his finger sparring and that he says the fight will be postponed to a later date.

Jamie Moore successfully defended his newly-acquired European light middleweight title on Saturday night, but that was the only real highlight on an underwhelming card in the North-East
Having only been European light middleweight champion for two months prior to Saturday night, not only can you forgive Jamie Moore for wanting to show off his belt as much as he can to the boxing world, but also for being eager to demonstrate that his association with such a prestigious title is not to go down in the history books as a easily-earned and regrettably inactive one.
Moreover, a lot of beltholders believe that you cannot be called a true champion without successfully defending your title and Moore clearly subscribed to that belief; the rapidity with which his first defense was arranged and then negotiated was hugely admirable, the Ukrainian Roman Dzuman being blown away within two brutal rounds.

Manny Pacquiao claimed the IBO light-welterweight title with a stunning second round knockout of Ricky Hatton on Saturday at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas.
Pacquiao equaled a boxing milestone with a title in a sixth career weight class by slamming a powerful left-hand blow into Hatton's chin to buckle Hatton's knees and send him down to the canvas on his back unconscious.
Pacquiao dropped the Hitman twice in the opening round and knocked him down at the end of the second with a looping left hand to score a stoppage at 2:59 before 16,262.
Hatton was defending his title but it was his second defeat in 47 fights, while Pacquiao now has 49 wins and three defeats from 54 fights.

An interesting evening in prospect up North this coming weekend with the Williams-McDermott rematch and Jamie Moore headlining
A big night is in store this coming Saturday for domestic boxing, with a triple bill of title action in prospect: Jamie Moore defends his newly-acquired European light middleweight title against Ukrainian Roman Dzuman, Rendall Munroe takes on Isaac Nettey for Commonwealth super bantamweight superiority (a title which is currently vacant) and Danny Williams and John McDermott do battle for a second time for Williams' British heavyweight belt, the first of which ended in a controversial win for Williams which adds some real spice to their rematch.
